Directions

From I-85 (map)

  • Take Exit 19B, U.S. 76 West towards Clemson.
  • Stay on U.S. 76 for approximately 10 miles, passing through seven traffic lights.
  • Turn left onto Silas N. Pearman Blvd. (Perimeter Road) at the traffic light immediately after National Guard Armory. There is a sign for the State Botanical Gardens at the turn.
  • Pass the fire station and the Botanical Gardens.
  • Continue through the traffic light at Cherry Road.
  • Take the next right onto Kappa St. Note: Google Maps identifies this road as "Hillside", not "Kappa". There is a discreet sign for Strom Thurmond Institute and a bolder sign that reads "STI". Strom Thurmond Institute is at the end of Kappa St. Special Collections is on the lower level.

From US 123 (map)

  • Turn onto US 76 East at the traffic light (there is a Ramada Inn on the corner).
  • Go under an overpass (for SC 93), then turn right onto Silas N. Pearman Blvd. (Perimeter Road).
  • Pass the fire station and the Botanical Gardens.
  • Continue through the traffic light at Cherry Road.
  • Take the next right onto Kappa St. Note: Google Maps identifies this road as "Hillside", not "Kappa". There is a discreet sign for Strom Thurmond Institute and a bolder sign that reads "STI". Strom Thurmond Institute is at the end of Kappa St. Special Collections is on the lower level.

Parking

Visitors may get a one-day parking pass by coming to the Special Collections Reference Desk on the lower level of the Strom Thurmond Institute. Visitor spaces are marked with white lines. If you have several days of research planned, you may get a multi-day visitor pass at Parking Services. There is no charge for a visitor's pass.
