The 400 page book includes one 16-page color signature of historical portraits and selections from Mr. Clemson’s art collection. In addition to each chapter’s illustrations, the biography features genealogy charts of the Clemson and Calhoun families dating from the 1600s to the 1970s.

Compact Shelving Update

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Half of the left side (east) of the 1st floor is now closed to the public. This includes call numbers A-D1.L62.

If you need books or journals, please go to the Circulation Desk for assistance. They can retrieve the materials for you.

We have closed that area because we’ve begun putting up the new compact shelving and the books are being placed on it. Please see today’s Daily Photo to see how it looks.

It’s very cool! And the new lights down there are awesome! So bright!

M’s are mmmmoving

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Books with call numbers beginning with M (just plain M, not ML or MT) have been moved out of the oversize section in Room 201 and are now in the place you would expect to find them in the regular stacks. Most of these books are scores.

They had been moved into the oversize section because we mistakenly thought that most of them were oversize. However, a second measuring found that most of them actually will fit on regular shelves.

Almost all the M’s are now on the regular shelves; the small number of M’s that are truly oversize are still in the oversize section. The catch is that most of the M’s in the oversize area are NOT labeled oversize in the catalog yet. There are plans for this to be done but with all the activity that’s going on to prepare the collection for compact shelving, it may be a while.

So if you can’t find an M book in the regular area, please check the oversize section, come talk with us at the Reference Desk or the Circulation Desk and we’ll try to track it down.

You’ve heard of books on tape…

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

but how about tape on books? That’s what we’ve got in Cooper Library.

Let me tell you why:

Remember when we told you we were putting all those shelves in the old Media Room? A bunch of books that are “oversized” will be moving to Rm 201 (former Media Room). Oversized means “too big to fit correctly on any of our normal shelves”.

Blue tape has been placed on books that need to be moved, to make it easier to find them. Please don’t move the blue tape.

We are working to have the catalog records say that the books are in Room 201; if they are, indeed, in that room.

If you have any questions about what is being moved or if you can’t find something, please come and ask us about it. We don’t want you to be frustrated.
