As always, the libraries webpage never takes a vacation and is never closed.
The weblog postings will be on intermittent next week because of Thanksgiving Break. Look for new updates and Daily Photos again on Monday, November 30.

Angel Tree
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009
The Clemson University Libraries is sponsoring an Angel Tree in the lobby of Cooper Library again this year.
There are over 100 tags on the tree this year. Each tag represents one child. The children are from the agencies of Clemson Head Start, Seneca Head Start, and the Salvation Army in Oconee County.
Head Start is a non-profit, federally funded preschool program for children ages 0-4. This program provides quality comprehensive service to preschool children, their families, and pregnant women.
If you would like to sponsor a child from the Angel Tree:
- Choose an ornament and fill out the attached information card.
- Put the completed card in the drop box.
- Bring your gifts, unwrapped in a gift bag (with the ornament attached) to the Library Security Desk.

New Digital Collection-Football Program Covers
Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Our newest digital collection comes at exactly the right season. Football season, that is!
The Clemson University Football Program Cover Collection comes from the University Archives, and features 198 unique cover layouts of both home and away games. It includes covers from programs ranging from 1927 to 1978, representing teams under coaches Josh C. Cody, Jess C. Neely, Frank Howard, Hootie Ingram, Red Parker, Charley Pell, and Danny Ford.
To see all the covers, go here and click on “browse collection” in the gray bar at the top of the page.
It’s really cool to see how the programs changed over time and to see who we played. Go Tigers!
Compact Shelving Update #6
Monday, November 2nd, 2009Compact Shelving is complete on the east side of 1st floor and is now open to the public (this means you!).
The furniture isn’t really back in place and construction on the west side is still going on…so studying down there probably isn’t the greatest idea during the day, but it should be quiet at night.
Some recently returned books haven’t been shelved yet. They are on book trucks, waiting.
The following call numbers are in the compact shelves: A-HF5801
The west side of the 1st floor is still closed and materials will be pulled for you. Go to the Circulation Desk on the 4th floor for assistance.
***********************************************
How to NOT get squished in the compact shelving:
Before you enter the aisle, press the center of the handle to lock that row so it will stay open. If the aisle is locked, a red ring shows in the middle of the handle. Be sure that you release the lock-tab when you’re finished in that aisle!
Chemistry Reading Room update
Thursday, October 29th, 2009The Chemistry Reading Room in Hunter Hall was renovated last December and now has a significantly smaller collection of journals and books. Selected journal titles were brought to Cooper Library from Hunter Hall back in July, and have been temporarily shelved in 201 Cooper Library. These journals are now being integrated with other chemistry titles in the Cooper Library stacks.
At this time, the best way to find where a journal is located is to search for it in the library catalog. If a journal that used to be in Hunter Hall has a location of:
- Cooper Library: The journal has already been relocated to the Cooper Library stacks, where you can find it by its call number (after catalog records are updated, journal volumes may initially be found on carts in the 5th floor re-shelving area, by the elevator, until space is made on the shelves).
- Hunter-CLICK for More: Click through to the Chemistry Reading Room webpage, where you’ll find a current spreadsheet of available print journals. The spreadsheet (in call number order) will tell you if a given journal is in 205 Hunter (new Chemistry Library), or still temporarily in 201 Cooper Library. If a journal you’re looking for is not on this list of available print journals, it is available online.
Note: The Chemistry Reading Room webpage also contains a spreadsheet of available books shelved in Hunter Hall. If you’re looking for a book that is NOT on this list, or if you have other questions, please contact Jennifer Groff (Chemistry Librarian) at jgroff@clemson.edu or (864) 656-4782.
