Alert! Noise & Floor Closed

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Parts of the 2nd floor are closed for construction/destruction. This is part of the compact shelving project. It will be extremely noisy while the end panels are removed from the shelves.

You might want to study on a different floor.

And before you ask…Yes! The compact shelving project will be suspended during exam week. No worries!

Compact Shelving Update #6

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Compact Shelving is complete on the east side of 1st floor and is now open to the public (this means you!).

The furniture isn’t really back in place and construction on the west side is still going on…so studying down there probably isn’t the greatest idea during the day, but it should be quiet at night.

Some recently returned books haven’t been shelved yet. They are on book trucks, waiting.

The following call numbers are in the compact shelves: A-HF5801

The west side of the 1st floor is still closed and materials will be pulled for you. Go to the Circulation Desk on the 4th floor for assistance.

***********************************************
How to NOT get squished in the compact shelving:

Before you enter the aisle, press the center of the handle to lock that row so it will stay open. If the aisle is locked, a red ring shows in the middle of the handle. Be sure that you release the lock-tab when you’re finished in that aisle!

Compact Shelving mini update

The elevators are being used heavily today because of the compact shelving project on the 1st floor. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Take the stairs! It’s good for you!

Compact Shelving Update #5

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Things are really getting hectic down on the first floor! The floor is closed to the public except for Room 103, a study room that can be reached by elevator.

Why is the floor closed? Well, they are taking down old shelves, putting up new compact shelves, and moving big wooden trucks of books from one side of the floor to the other. It’s noisy and dusty and in disarray.

When we are done with this project, the 1st floor is going to look great! New, brighter lights have been added and we are finally getting rid of the old orange carpet.

Remember, if you need a book from the 1st floor, call numbers A-K, please ask for it at the Circulation Desk on the 4th floor. They will go get it and bring it to you. Books are being pulled every 2 hours during the day and 3 times at night.

Compact Shelving Update #4

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

If you need to get to the 1st floor during the day (8am -5pm, Monday-Friday), you should get to the floor by using the elevator or the inside stairs near the elevator; NOT the main stairs.

The main stairs will be closed as pieces of compact shelving and books will be moving through the lobby area and represent a possible hazard to anyone trying to enter through the main stairs.

We apologize for this inconvenience and hope the stairs will only be closed a short time.

Remember, if you need a book from the 1st floor, call numbers A-K, please ask for it at the Circulation Desk on the 4th floor. They will go get it and bring it to you.

Compact Shelving Update #3

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

The entire east side of the 1st floor is closed to the public as the compact shelving is being constructed. If you need materials from that area, please go to the Circulation Desk and they will retrieve the materials for you.

53 shelves have been completed so far!

Compact Shelving Update 2

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Work is still being done on the east side of the 1st floor. More and more compact shelving is being installed every day. Call numbers from A through D are being shelved on the new shelving.

It’s a little confusing down there. If you need help getting books or journals, please go to the Circulation Desk. They can retrieve the materials for you or help you find what you are looking for.

twisty shelves

Compact Shelving Update

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Half of the left side (east) of the 1st floor is now closed to the public. This includes call numbers A-D1.L62.

If you need books or journals, please go to the Circulation Desk for assistance. They can retrieve the materials for you.

We have closed that area because we’ve begun putting up the new compact shelving and the books are being placed on it. Please see today’s Daily Photo to see how it looks.

It’s very cool! And the new lights down there are awesome! So bright!
