Finding Dissertations & Theses

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Have you ever had trouble finding where to search for dissertations and theses?

Here’s a quick list of places to find them. You can find them on the Databases A-Z page under “C” (for Clemson), “D” (for Dissertations & Theses), “P” (for the two databases we get from ProQuest), and “T” (for Theses & Dissertations).

There are also links to the databases on the “Finding Dissertations and Theses” page, which is linked on the Where Can I Find? page and the site index under “D” and “T.”

We hope this helps!

Can I get cash from Interlibrary Loan?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

No, it’s not that kind of loan; but you can get books and articles. If the Clemson University Libraries do not have a book or article that you need, just fill out an ILL form and we’ll get it for you.

Read all about how to get materials on ILL here.

Be sure and pay close attention the section on textbooks. We can’t get those!

PubMed Gets Google-ized

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

PubMed, comprises more than 19 million citations for biomedical articles from MEDLINE and life science journals. Citations may include links to full-text articles from PubMed Central or publisher web sites.

When you search for articles in PubMed, your terms are now automatically “ANDing.” For example: children exercise is searched as children AND exercise.

Exact phrases require quotes around them. For example: “exercise induced asthma”.

New Databases (Careers)

Through Discus, we have three new career or career-related databases:

Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center
Learning Express Library
Vocations, Careers, and Technical Education Collection.

You can find all three databases on the Databases A-Z list:

To gather all our career resources together, there’s now a “Career Information” page which is linked on the Research by Subject page.

On the Where Can I Find page, you can find a link for “Graduate School Admission Exams” and linked it back to the section on the Career Information page that has the Learning Express Library, because this database allows you to take practice GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT exams.

Question–What is my Refworks Group Code?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

refworkslogoweb
RefWorks is a web-based tool for managing your bibliography – easy to use and accessible from any computer. Keep track of all your citations in RefWorks and format papers with ease using Write & Cite in Microsoft Word. Clemson has a campus wide subscription to RefWorks; sign in with your Clemson UserID and password (the first time you log in you must be on campus).

I am off campus. It asks for a Group Code. Help?

You can use RefWorks from off campus after you’ve set up an account but you need the Group Code to identify yourself as a Clemson user. Find it here.

Need help using RefWorks? Ask a Librarian! Or contact Bobby Hollandsworth, our RefWorks Coordinator (hollan4@clemson.edu; (864) 656-3118).
