Robert Muldrow Cooper served as a member of Clemson’s Board of Trustees for 44 years and as president of the Board for 15 years, until his death in 1966, the year the R. M. Cooper Library was dedicated.
Originally from Wisacky, S.C. in Lee County, he had a long career of service to the state, including terms in the S. C. House of Representatives (1919-1922) and the S. C. Senate (1923-1933).
He also served as the Director of the S. C. Public Service Authority and twice as Director of the State Development Board. In the latter position, he played a highly significant role in the development of agriculture and industry in South Carolina during the 1940s and 1950s. |
