Accessibility

The Clemson University Libraries are committed to providing access to materials for all patrons.

The following services are provided:

Parking and Entering the Building

Accessible parking is available in the east parking lot. Patrons may use the door located on the ground floor, east side of the Library. An intercom/buzzer system is available to gain entry to the building.


Students registered with the Student Disability Services Office (864-656-6848) can use their Tiger1 cards to enter through the east doors on the ground floor of the library. Any patrons interested in setting up this access should contact Teri Alexander (864-656-5172) or Walter Wilson (864-656-6194).

 

Locating and Retrieving Materials

To assist with locating and retrieving materials, a page service is available through the Circulation Desk (864) 656-1557.

Library Services

A variety of services are available electronically through the Library's web pages. You may need to use your Clemson UserID and password and be registered with the office of disability.

Photocopying

For assistance with photocopying, contact Copier Services (864) 656-1687.

Reference and Research Assistance

Assistance is available at the Reference Desk. Stop by the Reference Desk or call (864) 656-3024 for an appointment.

All computer workstations in the Reference Area on the 4th (main) floor are wheel-chair accessible.

Limited reference service is provided through telephone or e-mail reference service. Although telephone reference is available during regular reference desk hours, the best times to call are Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. E-mail requests may be submitted any time and are answered within 24 hours on weekdays.

Equipment

In room 203 on the 2nd floor of Cooper Library, the Assistive Technology Lab offers an optical scanner with digital voice, an electronic magnification system and a speech recognition system for the visually impaired or learning disabled. Keys to the room are available for check-out at the Circulation Desk on the 4th floor. Training is provided by the Student Disability Services Office (864-656-6848).

Restrooms

An accessible restroom is located on the 2nd floor.

Returning Books

24-hour book drops are available in the Cooper Library east parking lot, outside Byrnes Hall, Hendrix Student Center and outside the Architecture Library in Lee Hall.

Special Collections

Special Collections is located on the lower level of the Strom Thurmond Institute Building with access through the south doors. There are accessible spaces located in the parking lot adjacent to the lower level. Access via the north doors of the upper level is not recommended for individuals in wheelchairs. There is a wheelchair accessible workstation in the Reading Room of Special Collections. All material is retrieved by the staff in Special Collections and photocopying is performed by the staff.

Architecture Library

Staff in the Gunnin Architectural Library accommodate the needs of people who have disabilities on an individual basis. Normal assistance may include retrieval of materials by staff, opening the ground floor door to the main stacks, or performing limited photocopying. See below for contact information.
