That the Roar May Echo:
Clemson and Tigers Through the Years

September 22, 2008 - January 4, 2009
R. M. Cooper Library, large exhibit cases
Main Lobby

A look at Clemson’s tiger mascot in its many forms over the past century.

Tigers are everywhere at Clemson. And they have been for 112 years.   Originally used for the football team, “Tigers” soon became the nickname for all Clemson sports teams and eventually for all Clemson students and alumni, as well as many of their activities and organizations.  The Clemson tiger has appeared in many forms, from real animals to steel sculptures to costumed mascots to cartoon drawings. Sometimes he’s friendly and sometimes he’s fierce. And sometimes he’s a she!  Throughout the years, the tiger has represented the strong and loyal spirit that is Clemson.
