Subject: Call Number Correction
Comment: Your catalog has this call number, G156.6.E28T68, on Tourism economics: the business and finance of tourism and recreation. When you find the book, it has this call number - G156.5.E28T68. Which is right?
Response: Everything is now correct and matching (G156.5.E28T68), including labels on the issues. Thank you for spotting this--we're always happy to correct problems!
- Bev Rainey, Database Maintenance & Authority Control Manager
Comment: Why is there duct tape on the door knobs?  It is getting to be pretty gross and sticky.  Plus, will it start to spread more germs?  How can you clean it?
Response: You are right – it is.  Facilities Locksmith Shop was contacted & will come over ASAP.  The doorknobs have a circular piece on the handle with a potential sharp edge.  The duct tape was used (as it is, allover the south!) as a temporary measure until the new handles arrived.  Sorry for the delay.

Comment: You need to have more maps of all the stacks on the different floors, like the map at the Reference Desk...it would help to have the maps in the elevators or at the computer catalog kiosks around the building so I can find where to go... The map at the Desk has the stacks with the big letters in black and also you need maps with "You Are Here" like at the shopping mall. I was pretty lost in your library. Thanks.
Response: I agree with your suggestions! Let me see what options are available. Our signage system is at least 20 years old. Thanks, again.

Subject: Newspapers
Comment: Tried to find the Saturday 6/2/07 edition of the Greenville News but it was not available.
Response: Many newspapers are delivered through the US Mail. It is beyond our control to determine when received. In an attempt to improve access, a couple of vendors placed newspaper machines near the front of Cooper Library. We’d like to improve but aren’t sure what we can do. If you have suggestions, please let us know.
- Gail Julian, Head of Acquisitions
Subject: Wall Street Journal
Comment: Where is the Wall Street Journal?
Response: Our apologies for the confusion.  WSJ is now located behind the Circulation Desk on the main floor (4).  Please ask for it at that location.
- Rosanne Maw, Reserve & Media Manager, 656-0590
Subject: Water Fountains
Comment: Water Fountains – Everywhere - We thirsty.
Response: We’ll add your request to the long long list of wishes for the building.

Subject: Painting & Furnishings
Comment: Paint every wall, get new desks
Response: We’d love to.  Find us a donor.  Much of our budget is devoted to the purchase of materials (all sorts of materials).  University Facilities Paint Shop tries to stay on top of our painting needs but like all departments they are pushed for time and have many projects.  If there’s a particular problem area, please report it.  Thanks!

Subject: Security
Comment: Cooper should look at the possibility of getting a system put in at the entrance to the Library that allows one to come in. The doors simply aren't enough because people can easily slip back out of them when someone else comes in. Like the system Fike has where people slide their cards to enter should be looked into for Cooper. I've become aware that during the year(esp. exams) that theft increases, and people escape by using the entrance doors. Also the card system would be used to monitor the number of people who aren't students who use the Library. I've seen numbers of High School students come into the Library and because they're not native to the Clemson campus if they were to take something it'd be much harder to track them down. Just some concerns.
Response: Thanks for your suggestions.  We’re limited in what we can do – Cooper Library is open to the public and serves many residents of the state of South Carolina as well as our University clients.  Entrance can not be limited; however we have considered such for late night access.  Our security personnel do monitor activity as best they can at both the entrance and exits.  We’ll certainly consider your concerns as we contemplate space and making changes.  Again, thanks!

Subject: Kiosk
Comment: I have tried several times to use the big computer screen on the stand near the entrance to Cooper Library, but when I touch the screen it never goes to the page I want.  Sometimes if I touch it several times I
can get it to move, but usually I just give up.  Can it be adjusted so it will work better?
Response: I checked the kiosk as soon as this suggestion was received and found that it is working to the best of its ability.  Much of the functionality of the kiosk lies in the way that it is touched.  Only a light touch is needed to make it link to the desired pages.  I also checked with the manufacturer and the vendor for the kiosk and they have done as much as they can to improve the functionality.  This kiosk is, at times, not as responsive as it could be, but it works as best as the technology that it uses will allow.  If you will let us know specific pages that do not work, or that you have particular trouble with, I will gladly look into improving what is in my power to do so.
- Anne Grant, Kiosk Administrator

Subject: Drink Machines
Comment: Is it possible to get more drink machines or 6th & lower floors?
Response: Let's wait until after the upcoming HVAC renovation and subsequent discussions about utilization of space in Cooper Library. Thanks and we'll keep you posted.

Subject: Music
Comment: When I arrived today I thought I had mistakenly walked into the Brooks center.  After a closer look I saw it was a “concert” in the library.  When does a concert + library = quiet, isn’t this the point of a library.  Ever thought of doing this activity on one of the many amphitheaters on campus?
Response: Cooper Library celebrates the “Arts in April” by hosting musical performances in the main lobby for a thirty minute period on a weekly basis. Other months, the performances are hosted once per month. Given that Cooper is open 148 hours of 168 hours total, we feel that 30 minutes during the lunch period is appropriate. We apologize for the inconvenience but feel strongly that library patrons enjoy the brief respite from study and research.

Subject: Chairs in Pop Reading area
Comment: I came to the library today to find a book in the popular reading section but I couldn't get anywhere near the books. The chairs had been pulled right up against the shelves and people were sitting in them. Could you please find a way to keep the chairs away from the shelves.
Response: We try our hardest to keep the chairs arranged in this area but our efforts are fruitless! Patrons re-arrange the furniture to suit themselves. We’ll attempt this summer to do some re-arranging of our own to alleviate this problem. We’ll try! Thanks for the suggestion.
