Subject: Laptops
Suggestion: Can we have more laptops?
Response: More on the way. While the new ones won't be received in time for exam week, ten new laptops are on order.

Subject: Online catalog (web catalog)
Suggestion: Online catalog is too picky about search terms. The LUIS Catalog is so much easier and it works better.
Response: Our current web catalog is definitely not state-of-the-art. It was fashioned as an add-on product to allow web access but it was not a separately engineered product incorporating the richness of searching that LUIS now has nor the power that newer web catalogs offer. Clemson, along with 6 other institutions in South Carolina, is searching for a new library system that we hope will be in place at the end of next year (the process of selection and implementation just takes time). The most public piece of this new system will be a web catalog that will offer all of the features of LUIS plus a lot more. In the meantime LUIS is a still the most powerful catalog search tool we have.

Subject: Cell Phone Noise

Suggestion: It would be great if cell phone use was restricted to the lobby, cafe, or something else. It is very frustrating when using the computers or trying to study, and the people next to me are talking - loudly - on their phones.
Response: If only we could. There's a problem in instituting a policy that we can't enforce. If this type problem persists, you have two choices - either ask the offender to quieten down (politely) or you must move to another location. I know these aren't the solutions you'd prefer. If the person is in a quiet area on levels 1, 2 or 3, please report to the nearest public service desk or office for help.

Subject: Level Five Noise

Suggestion: Please establish 5th floor computers as a quiet area. Lots of socializing going on. I need to use those computers to study. I am a grad student.
Response: Level Five can not be designated as a quiet area. The design & the furnishings really don't allow for quiet. The area is wide open to the ceiling with large tables for group collaboration. PC's are available on level one in the lab for a more quiet environment. Also - in the next year, we plan to add smaller "pods" of PC's in other areas on the lower floors.

Subject: Baby Changing Station

Suggestion: I've asked this before and have never seen it addressed -- Please add a baby changing station to the public restroom on the main floor. Thanks.
Response: Thanks for remembering. I am checking prices now. Look for a changing station in the restroom SOON.

Subject: Microwave

Suggestion: (Two) The Library needs a student lounge for all student with a microwave.
Response: Java City Cafe on level five has a microwave available for your use. Ask the staff.

Subject: Vending Machines

Suggestion: Four suggestions: "Coke machines that work" and "Get better vending machines".
Response: Your suggestions were forwarded to the Financial Affairs Office for consideration. Thanks.

Subject: Current Periodicals

Suggestion: It seems to be taking longer than desirable to return the current periodicals to level four.
Response: Thank you for your continued patience as we relocate the print journals from Level 2 to Level 4. Journals are shelved in call number order and, thus, it is a slow tedious process to reshelve them accurately. We want to make sure that all titles are in order and shelved neatly. We are also taking this opportunity to replace the old labels with new labels that have complete information and are easier to read. In addition, we are adding binding information for the staff so that journals will not be pulled from the shelves unnecessarily. We hope that taking this extra time will result in added convenience to users in the future.

Subject: Database Purchase

Suggestion: We really need access to PsycArticles. Many of the APA journals (ex. Psychological Methods and Psychological Bulletin) provide grounding for the methodology used in much of today's research.
Response: We are still waiting to see if there will be funding for new databases this year. This is a very expensive database (approximately $18,000 per year). Your request has been referred to the committee that selects new databases.

Subject: Journal Purchase

Suggestion: We really need access to PsycArticles. Many of the APA journals (ex. Psychological Methods and Psychological Bulletin) provide grounding for the methodology used in much of today's research.
Response: Sorry for this delayed reply. We still do not know if there will be funding this year for new journal titles. Your request was referred to the committee that selects new titles when there is funding.

Subject: Microwave

Suggestion: Please provide a microwave for the convenience of students.
Response: Java City has a microwave in the coffee shop. Please feel free to use it. The Library is not planning to purchase or provide a microwave (or other "kitchen" type appliances). Our housekeeping staff is overloaded with the routine duties of keeping our building clean and we have other priorities for the money and resources as opposed to a financing a public breakroom.

Subject: Laptop computers

Suggestion: The laptop had the volume turned up (I couldn't turn it off). I was afraid it was bothering others. Also it would be nice if Adobe Acrobat was installed.
Response: We're not sure why you had a problem with the volume. There are a couple of ways to turn it down. Please report the problem to the Circulation Desk while you have the machine & we'll help. Also, thanks for the comment about Adobe. It has been added to all laptops.

Subject: Current Periodicals

Suggestion: Please reorganize the current periodicals to alphabetical order by title. I do not have the call numbers of all of the journals in my field memorized, but I do know their names. The current periodicals sections of libraries I have had the privilege to use at major research universities have been organized in this fashion. It is much more logical for the users experience. If fact if both the title and call number are listed then the section also acts as a catalog of sorts to allow one to head directly to the stacks for past issues after glancing at the most recent issues instead of looking up the call number at one of the computer stations. Thank you.
Response: Thank you for your suggestion pertaining to the current periodicals display area. The Library held a summit recently with faculty and students to ascertain which areas in the Libraries could use improvement and how best to go about making these improvements. The arrangement of the current periodicals display area was not identified as an area needing
