Concept Purpose The THC is an interest group and clearing house established to encourage and facilitate the identification, preservation and use of the history of textiles and the textile industry in America. Participants The THC is a non-membership collegial group open to all museums, libraries, archives and other public and private historical and cultural organizations and their staff members as well as other individuals who have a need for and / or interest in the preservation and use of the record of textiles and the textile industry in America. Programs and Services The THC will have an e-mail list serve to be used to share information among consortium members and other interested individuals and organizations. In addition, the THC will establish a web site to facilitate communication among THC participants and others with an interest in the important issue of textile history in America. Other services and opportunities for future implementation include scholarly and popular conferences on textile subjects, circulating exhibitions, shared databases re: images, records, archives, etc. Finances The THC has no dues or other entry costs. Members invest in their own activities related to participating in the THC and share expenses for projects as appropriate. The THC itself does not envision seeking grants or other financial support, but rather relies on its participating entities, both organizations and individuals, to establish fundable projects with benefits for the entire textile history field. Coordination The American Textile History Museum will provide coordination for the THC, and will maintain a list serve. In addition, the THC developed this Web site, which was created by Georgia State University and is hosted by Clemson University.
